Helping Make the Legal Process More Manageable

Lily Thieman, Litigation Paralegal

Lily Thieman is a Litigation Paralegal at Meyers Personal Injury Law in Brentwood. She works closely with clients, attorneys, medical providers, insurance companies, and others involved in personal injury cases, helping manage the work necessary to move each case forward.

Her role puts her at the intersection of two parts of the legal process she values most: solving problems and working directly with people. On any given day, Lily may be drafting case documents, working on discovery, preparing a demand, tracking deadlines, or talking with a client who has questions about what comes next.

That client interaction is particularly important to her. Lily understands that the legal process may be familiar to our team but completely unfamiliar to the person experiencing it. She wants clients to feel comfortable asking questions, talking through frustrations, and knowing someone is listening as their case progresses.

Lily’s Role at Meyers Personal Injury Law

There is no single typical day for Lily, and that is part of what she enjoys about being a litigation paralegal.

She regularly communicates with clients, medical providers, insurance companies, and other parties involved in the firm’s cases. Her litigation work includes drafting complaints and discovery, preparing demands and other case documents, monitoring deadlines, and helping attorneys Chad Meyers and Leah Pybas move cases toward resolution.

Each responsibility comes with its own details. Medical information may still need to be collected. A client may be continuing treatment. An insurance company may need a response. Discovery may require information from several sources. A deadline that is months away still needs to be anticipated and tracked.

Lily helps keep those pieces organized while remaining accessible to the clients living through the process. She knows they may have questions, become frustrated by how long something is taking, or simply need an opportunity to talk about what they are experiencing.

For Lily, helping a case move forward and helping a client understand that process go hand in hand.

Finding Her Place in the Legal Field

Lily’s interest in law grew from an interest in problem-solving, advocacy, and understanding how the legal system can directly affect people’s lives.

She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The summer before her senior year, Lily interned at a family and criminal law firm, an experience that helped shape the way she works with clients today.

She saw firsthand that people often seek legal help during some of the most stressful and emotional periods of their lives. It reinforced for her how much patience, approachability, and clear communication can matter when someone is dealing with an unfamiliar legal process.

Lily is continuing to build on that experience as a second-year law student at Nashville School of Law. Balancing law school with her work as a litigation paralegal has deepened her understanding of the work that happens behind the scenes and strengthened her interest in law that first led her to the field.

Setting the Right Expectations as Cases Move Forward

One of the biggest misconceptions Lily sees is the expectation that a personal injury case should move quickly once an attorney becomes involved.

In reality, there may be significant work happening before a client sees an obvious result. The team may be gathering medical records, communicating with providers and insurance companies, waiting for treatment to conclude, preparing a demand, responding to discovery, or working through negotiations.

Those steps can take time, and every case follows its own path.

Lily understands why that can be frustrating for someone who is ready to put an accident behind them. Part of her role is helping clients navigate those periods, answering questions when she can, and helping make sure the work that needs to happen continues moving forward.

That perspective also shapes the advice she would give someone after an accident: focus first on getting the medical care you need, keep track of your records and appointments, and ask questions when you are unsure about what happens next.

Fostering a Personal Approach to Client Communications

Lily knows that a personal injury case represents much more to a client than a collection of records, deadlines, and legal documents.

An accident can suddenly introduce injuries, medical appointments, insurance issues, missed routines, and questions someone never expected to have to answer. Lily believes it is difficult to fully appreciate what that experience feels like until you have gone through it yourself.

She cannot take away what a client is experiencing, but she can help make the process feel more manageable.

Sometimes that means answering a question or explaining what is happening. Other times, it means giving someone room to express their frustration. Lily wants clients to see her as approachable and know they can speak openly with her about what they are dealing with.

Seeing that work reach its conclusion is one of the most rewarding parts of her job. After months of work behind the scenes, Lily values seeing the relief a resolution can bring to a client and their family and knowing the team played a role in helping them move forward.

Growing With a Close-Knit Legal Team

The size of Meyers Personal Injury Law was one of the things that initially attracted Lily to the firm.

From the beginning, she found the team personable and welcoming. The boutique environment also offered the kind of involvement she was looking for: a place where team members know the details of their cases, communicate closely with one another, and can see the effect their work has on clients.

That collaboration continues to be one of the things Lily values most about working at Meyers Personal Injury Law. Because the team stays closely involved, information can be shared quickly and clients are not dependent on a single person knowing what is happening with their case.

For Lily, that creates a more personal experience. Clients have access to a team that knows their case and makes an effort to be responsive when questions or concerns arise.

Outside the Office

Outside the office, Lily is currently planning her wedding with her fiancé. When her busy schedule allows, she enjoys spending time with her family, friends, and the people closest to her.
